2005 chevrolet trailblazer review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Improved safety features for a superb family vehicle. introductionchevrolet trailblazer is powerful, rugged and capable, yet smooth, comfortable and civilized. Its rigid chassis, sophisticated suspension, powerful brakes and impressive details place it among the best of the mid-size suvs. It's stable and manuverable, and provides a smooth ride. Trailblazer comes standard with a superbly smooth and modern inline six-cylinder engine. an extended-wheelbase model called the trailblazer ext adds three-row seating, accomodating up to seven people. It comes standard with the same excellent six-cylinder engine, but a new v8 is also available. new for 2005, the vortec 5300 v8 with its displacement on demand technology promises about 8 percent better fuel economy than the engine it replaces. Equipped with the v8, a 2wd trailblazer ext can tow up to 7,000 pounds. The ext needs the v8 due to its heavier weight, and because of its much greater length, the ext lacks the handling and stability that make the standard trailblazer such a great family vehicle. curtain side-impact airbags with a rollover sensing system designed to provide increased head protection are available on 2005 models. Also new is an occupant-sensing system for the front passenger-side airbag. There are also improved seats, refinements to the navigation system and more bright trim for the interior. lineuptrailblazer comes in two trim levels, ls and lt. An optional package 1,185) adds remote keyless entry, content-theft alarm, heated foldaway mirrors, a rear window defogger, color-keyed carpeted floor mats, crossbars for the luggage rack, and charcoal-colored body-side moldings. lt 30,370) adds fog lamps, an overhead console with homelink transmitter and travelnote digital recorder, body-color grille and door handles, eight-way power for the driver's seat, a trailer wiring harness and 17-inch aluminum wheels. It's an aggressive look with bold headlamps and a split grille. The horizontal bar that splits the grille, headlamps and turn signals is chromed on the ls, body-colored on the lt. The front bumper features a large opening with two vertical slats, and the optional foglights are mounted down low. The front end of the trailblazer makes it look like a scaled-down suburban or silverado. overall, trailblazer looks sturdy and neat, with confident lines that express utility. The pillars and window lines are graceful, while the big fender flares are visually bold. At the rear is a convenient step in the center of the bumper. But the stacked round taillights look lumpy and googly-eyed. the track (the distance between the left and right tires) is the widest in the class, 2. 2 inches wider than the ford explorer in front and nearly an inch wider in the rear. This gives the trailblazer more hip and shoulder room. the easiest way to tell the trailblazer from the trailblazer ext is to look at the rear passenger doors; they're full-size doors on the ext but the rear wheel wells cut into them on the standard-length model. The seven-seat trailblazer ext is 16 inches longer in wheelbase than the standard five-seat trailblazer and looks disproportianately long and narrow. interiorthe trailblazer's seats have been revised for improved comfort for 2005. Seat adjustments are manual in the ls. Eight-way power operation with memory and seat heaters is available on fully optioned lt models. Power adjustable pedals on the lt 150) allow shorter drivers to move the brake and accelerator pedals up to three inches closer for better positioning and comfort without having to move to close to the airbag-equipped steering wheel. It's a good safety feature and popular among women. the standard trailblazer seats five passengers, while the trailblazer ext seats seven. Second-row space is nearly identical between trailblazer and trailblazer ext. Both offer more room in the second row than the ford explorer, particularly hip room. cargo space in the ext is generous. The cargo floor isn't as flat as we'd like, though, and a gap between the two third-row seats makes it less dog-friendly. the explorer, however, provides a bit more third-row people room than the trailblazer ext. Head, hip, and leg room in the explorer's third row measure 38. 9, 45. 4, and 34. 9 inches, respectively. The corresponding numbers for the trailblazer ext are 38. 1, 49. 2, and 31. 2. Trailblazer ext is 2. 6 inches wider than explorer, which accounts for the additional hip room. But clearly, the explorer's independent rear suspension, and resulting low floor, allowed ford to pack more leg room and head room into a significantly shorter wheelbase. all trailblazers feature complete and clean instrumentation. A big tachometer is on the left, speedometer in center, and on the right are smaller gauges for water, battery, gas and oil. Heating and air conditioning can be controlled separately by the driver and front-seat passenger. Ext models add separate climate controls for rear-seat passengers as well. Interior lights abound, including reading lights. the center console includes an open storage bin, an enclosed compartment and two cup holders forward of the gear lever plus two cup holders for the rear passengers. There are pockets in the front doors and behind the front seats, though none in the rear doors. Behind the rear seat is a small hidden compartment under the floor, while optional features include a cargo net, scrolling tonneau cover and power outlet. An overhead console on the lt includes a sunglasses holder plus travelnote digital recorder. head-curtain side-impact airbags 495) unfold from the roof rail between the a-pillar and side window header. When the bag deploys in a moderate-to-severe side impact, it is angled somewhat toward the window to help provide protection for front and rear-seat outboard passengers. The new system replaces the previous seat-mounted system, which protected the driver and front-seat passenger only. Trailblazers equipped with head-curtain airbags also feature a new rollover sensing system that triggers both the side-curtain airbags and safety belt pretensioners. The rollover-sensing module uses a complex algorithm based on lateral and vertical accelerations, roll rate and vehicle speed to determine whether to deploy the safety systems. Standard on the 2005 trailblazer is gm's passenger sensing system (pss), which can deactivate the front-passenger airbag if it senses an unoccupied front passenger seat or the presence of a smaller occupant. A status indicator on the instrument panel alerts occupants that the passenger airbag is on or off. Even with this system, however, we strongly recommend carrying under-age passengers in an appropriate child seat placed in the second. driving impressiontrailblazer's six-cylinder engine is smooth and quiet. And the faster it goes, the smoother it seems to get. It's an inline-6, a design that's inherently better balanced than a v6. It idles so smoothly that a device was added that prevents the starter from grinding if the key is turned when the engine is already running. called the vortec 4200, the 4. 2-liter.

Larger v6 brings more power to the lineup. introductionthe chevrolet equinox has pricing and features of a compact suv, but it's slightly larger than its direct competition, closer in size to a midsize and it has features not expected in its price class. front-wheel drive is standard, optional all-wheel drive adds winter weather capability. The 2013 equinox with the 2. 4-liter engine and front-wheel drive gets an epa-estimated 22/32 mpg city/highway; the 2013 equinox awd is rated at 20/29 mpg. for 2013, a 3. 6-liter v6 replaces the previous 3. 0-liter v6, adding 14 percent more horsepower and 22 percent more torque while delivering virtually equivalent fuel economy. The numbers are 301 horsepower and 272 pound-feet of torque. The 2013 equinox with 3. 6-liter v6 is epa-rated at 17/24 mpg city/highway. With all-wheel drive, the 2013 equinox awd is rated 16/23 mpg. Regular gasoline is recommended for all equinox models; more-expensive premium is not needed. We found the more powerful v6 makes upgrading to the bigger engine worthwhile. the 6-speed automatic transmission is updated, also, which benefits all 2013 equinox models with a smoother driving experience than before. the current model is the second-generation equinox, which was launched as a 2010 model. 2013 equinox models come with some new features, including an eight-way adjustable front passenger seat and a universal garage door opener. The equinox is not sporty, but its handling is on par with that of the honda cr-v and toyota rav4. interior roominess is one of its major strengths. Equinox has plenty of room for up to five passengers and their cargo. The front seats are comfortable and supportive, and they have 10 inches of travel, so drivers of all sizes will fit. There are some nice amenities, though, including ice blue ambient lighting, dual-zone automatic climate control, a power liftgate, and a dual-screen rear dvd entertainment system. Chevrolet's mylink touchscreen infotainment system is also available; it provides a link to apps through smartphones. a roomy cabin and a reasonable pricing make the chevrolet equinox an attractive alternative to smaller compact crossover that cost about the same. A 3. 6-liter v6 is optional 1,500). All models come with a 6-speed automatic. Equinox 2lt 27,270) and 2lt awd 29,020) get automatic climate control, eight-way power driver's seat, heated front seats, 250-watt pioneer audio system, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, remote engine starting, and fog lights. equinox ltz 30,515) and ltz awd 32,265) upgrade to leather upholstery, eight-way power passenger seat, heated front seats, universal garage door opener, rear cargo cover, memory for the driver's seat and mirrors, rear park assist, automatic headlights, power rear liftgate, and chrome exterior trim. All-wheel drive enhances stability in slippery conditions. walkaroundthe chevrolet equinox is larger than a compact suv (such as the honda cr-v) and smaller than a midsize (such as the honda pilot). Equinox uses the same theta architecture that underpins the gmc terrain. up front, equinox features chevrolet's signature two-tier dual-port grille with gold bowtie insignia. The headlights wrap around the front fenders. Air ducts sit below the headlights and house fog lights in chromed bezels that bisect the openings. The lower front fascia is charcoal-colored plastic and it has an air dam in the center. The hood has three character lines. around the sides, the equinox has pronounced fender flares and a wheels-at-the-corners stance, especially up front. The roof features wraparound side glass at the rear and available tinted rear and rear side windows. All but the equinox ls model have luggage side rails. Seventeen-inch aluminum wheels are standard and 18- and 19-inch wheels are available. at the rear, the equinox has dual round taillights, a takeoff of the malibu design, and a roof spoiler. The tailgate opens upward, and a power, programmable tailgate is offered. Owners can program the tailgate to open to different heights so shorter drivers can reach it. Overall, the look is attractive and fairly aerodynamically efficient, with a 0. 36 coefficient of drag. The ltz's additional chrome trim adds a touch of class, especially with the chromed 19-inch wheels (though they are ridiculously priced at $3,600). interiorchevrolet says the equinox interior was inspired by the interior of the last generation malibu midsize sedan. While that may be true when it comes to aesthetics, it's not true in terms of execution. The malibu has since been redesigned and the interior materials have improved significantly. Instead, like the toyota rav4 and honda cr-v that chevrolet benchmarked when developing this vehicle, the equinox has hard plastic on the entirety of the dashboard, as well as on the center console and door panels. The ice blue ambient lighting is a delightful feature. Equinox ls models have it on the center stack surround and in the center console cupholders. Equinox lt models add it on the instrument panel and center console, and the equinox ltz gets it in the door handle recesses, in the footwells, and in the door map pockets. The first two apps are stitcher and pandora internet radio. The system's home screen features icons that are easy to understand, though drivers may have to stretch to reach the screen, which is also heavily hooded and leans away from the driver. The radio, navigation system, bluetooth phone, and mp3 players are run through the mylink. The speedometer and tachometer feature white numbers and black backgrounds. They are set in large pods and in between are water temperature and fuel gauges, as well as a digital trip computer readout. The base interior has a storage cubby at the top of the center stack. When the mylink system is ordered, it sits in this spot. The center stack is trimmed in a good-looking clear-coated silver-painted plastic. The controls here are grouped in a tight bunch, with the radio buttons up top and the climate controls at the bottom. This mass of buttons, dials and knobs can be confusing. space is not a problem in the equinox. Cloth or leather, the front seats are comfortable and supportive. Gm obviously spent some money here. They are especially attractive in leat.
